The Biltmore Estate is Asheville’s most popular attraction and certainly its grandest. Built in the late 1800s, by George Vanderbilt, the estate was and still is our country’s largest home.
Today as guest tour the house they can view the 250 rooms filled with original furnishing and art. In addition, the house boasts and indoor pool and a bowling alley. The basement levels are also open allowing a glimpse at the huge kitchens and pantries and servants quarters.
The gardens, designed by New York’s Central Park landscape architect, are astounding. Broken up into different sections, the Rose Garden, the Azalea Garden, and the Shrub Garden are just a few of the favorites.
With complimentary tastings, the winery is, of course another favorite part of the Biltmore tour. You can learn how the Biltmore Estate’s award winning wines are crafted and you will have the opportunity to purchase your favorites.
The working farm that sits on the estate’s 8,000 acres of property is a great way to explore what life was like for the laborers of the estate. Blacksmiths and woodworkers demonstrate their skills, antique equipment is on display, and the gardens are bursting with vegetables. The farmyard is also a popular stop. Guests can visit with goats, horses, cows, and hens plus they can wander through the adjacent corn maze.
The Biltmore offers several dining options ranging from fine dining to buffets and guests are also welcome to leave the property and return later that day. There are several shops on the property including a toy store, a confectioner, a Christmas store, apparel stores, and more.
The Biltmore Estate opens at 9:00 am January thru March, and 8:30 am April thru December. Be sure to arrive early to allow plenty of time to see everything. Guests may obtain a pass for entry the day following their visit by upgrading their tickets for an additional $10.00. Guests arriving after 3:00 pm may have their tickets validated for free admission the following day.
Ticket prices vary based on time of year and day. Prices range from $25.00 (in January and February), to $44.00 (September thru January.) Tickets may be purchases on line or at the gate. Children usually get in free during the summer.
