The Asheville Parks and Recreation department certainly has its hands full. They beautifully maintain over 45 parks and recreation facilities. There are an abundance of public tennis courts, picnic areas, baseball fields, and swimming pools in the Asheville area, thanks to them. Also, they are also responsible, in part, for the over 160 hanging flowering baskets that adorn our downtown light posts.
Additionally, the city has several greenways in the works. A greenway is a linear park, with paths for both pedestrians and bicyclists, which is joined with other greenways to create a network of trails.
We have 10 Recreation Centers in the Asheville area. These centers provide a wide variety of services, such as after-school care and programs targeted towards at-risk youth. The recreation centers also host several classes with subjects like cooking and fitness.
