Asheville and the surrounding area has SO MUCH to offer that we can only scratch the surface of the activities available. Place your pointer over any of the markers on the map below for more information.

Asheville Tourists Baseball

(828) 258-0428
30 Buchanan Place
Asheville, NC 28801

We think one of the best ways to enjoy the beautiful weather of an Asheville summer night is to head on down to McCormick Field and take in a game of baseball. Asheville’s Class A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, the Asheville Tourists, are scheduled for 46 home games between Memorial day and the end of August.

McCormick field has seen some recent improvements including a party deck on the left-field line, and upscale club seating down the right. There are also new box seats and a new score board. McCormick field also offers family seating with an alcohol-free zone and fireworks displays on certain nights.

Game times are 2:05 PM on Sundays and 7:05 PM Monday through Saturday.

Drum Circle

For almost a decade Pritchard Park has been the Friday night home to a group of drummers. The ever rotating cast is open to anyone with a percussion instrument. It is not uncommon to see a group of 40 or so people gathering to drum with friends and strangers alike. The rhythmic beat of the drum circle draws a large crowd of dancers and onlookers as well. The drum circle takes place every Friday during the warmer months, from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

Biltmore Estate Gardens

The gardens at the Biltmore Estate are absolutely amazing. Designed by NYC Central Park landscape architect Fredrick Law Olmsted, there are acres and acres of beautifully manicured gardens, including the Shrub Garden, the Italian Garden, and the All American Rose Garden featuring over 250 varieties of roses. Equally impressive are the Walled Garden and the Azalea Garden.

Guided walking tours are available for an additional 15.00 dollars per guest starting March 31st, on Saturdays and Sundays.

The Botanical Gardens at Asheville

Asheville’s Botanical Gardens feature an impressive variety of wildflowers, flowering trees, and shrubs plus herbs, grasses and mosses, over 700 species in all, which are native to the Southern Appalachians.

Located at 151 W.T. Weaver Blvd. Asheville, adjacent to UNC Asheville, the Botanical Gardens are open year round from sunrise to sunset. Group tours are available for the ˝ mile loop. Admission is free with donations gratefully accepted. There is a library and gift shop.

North Carolina Arboretum

The North Carolina Arboretum is 434 acres of public gardens located in Bent Creek Experimental Forest. There are numerous trails throughout the Arboretum for hikers and cyclists. The botanically diverse bonsai collection boasts over 100 quality specimens. There are also several gardens and collections such as the Blue Ridge Quilt Garden, the Holly Garden, the Stream Garden, and the Plants of Promise Garden which showcases new plants derived from native flora. The Arboretum offers a wide range of activities for visitors of all ages including educational programs, tours, garden demonstrations and workshops.

Located at 100 Fredrick Law Olmsted Way, the Arboretum is open 8AM – 9PM, April through October, 8AM – 7PM, November through March. There is a 6.00 dollar parking fee per vehicle. Call ahead at (828) 665-2492 for guided walking or Segway tours. There is a café, gift shop, and educational center.

White Water Rafting

The French Broad River, one of only two rivers in the United States that flows north, is the most popular river for white water rafting in Asheville. The free flowing river has class I-IV rapids, with the calmest areas being near the Biltmore.

White Water Rafting is an amazing way for the whole family to take in the scenic beauty of Asheville. Experience rafting is not necessary and children are welcome. All of the rafting outfitters provide experienced guides for the excursions. Full of half day trips are available, and most launching points are no more than and hour and a half from downtown Asheville. Most rafting companies also offer one or two man “duckies”, inflatable kayaks, for the calmer parts of the river.

For the best trip, we recommend the Nantahala Outdoor Center, because of their level expertise and knowledge.
